Eddie Hawk

*A man, a boy....heck, he's many things and yet they know exactly who he is as he leaves the school. Its time to grow up, we can't stay sheltered and we can't play kids. We can not always hope that someone will be with us to save us. Not them, nor the others here..my family and friends. As of today, I am no longer the student....*

Good bye...

*I'm going to live off campus. I'm going to take care of myself. I am an orphan and yes, that means alot of problems. But I'll get my GED. And then I'll do what I must.*

Eddie Hawk

*So many things in this world need to change and every time they try to do something they are reminded that they are kids and still have so much to learn. He's not saying he doesn't have alot to learn, but he has a responsibility to try and help atleast. Its time to stand on his own. A man stands on his own to feet and does what he believes to be right.*

Madison Templin (Liss)

I thought I had been specific enough. I guess I was wrong. I shouldn't use my powers so much, I mean...I could get hurt this way, but sometimes, I could care less. I popped out of a door in an ally, one that seemed to be too old, rusted shut, and dead bolted too many times for it to be useful. But regardless, I step out of that door, my blonde hair a bit rumpled, but I wanted some chocolate. I guess it had to be now.

I step out onto the street, look both ways, and as I look to my left, I feel a slight breeze, odd, it wasn't at all really windy out. I look back to the right and suddenly...there's someone there. It makes me jump...jump and yelp. And then blink.

"Uh. Hi."

Eddie Hawk

*The city is quiet, duffle over one shoulder. He didn't arrive much and isn't leaving with much either. Some more clothing, photos, and old uniform he made, and a few odds and ends are all the large duffle holds. He holds it easier then when he first arrived though and for that he's greatful to his time here. A lost thought of where to next as a voice draws his focus. A turn and gentle smile.*

Hi.

*He smiles like the boy he is and not the man he wants to be. So much to learn even still. Walking closer to her naturally. Nothing alarming about him.*

Madison Templin

But I'm a little smarter than that. There's all sorts of loonies out here, and how can I be sure he's not one of them. I take a little step back and I reach into the pocket of my jeans. Mace is a girl's best friend in this city.

"Uh..yeah, wasn't an invitation...who knows what kind of loonie you are.."

I'm just being protective of my little self. I am standing five feet two inches, my heeled slip ons don't even make much of a difference. I could be safe if I get to a door, but that's if he'll let me open it, right. But I could be overreacting. He could be a nice kid.

"You ah..lost or somethin'?"

Eddie Hawk

*He stops, and laughs. Its natural and yeah anyone in this city would think that. Cept he isn't from this city, only lived here a few years and sometimes forgets the lack of trust here.*

Starting fresh...I figured maybe I could..do it here. You know?

*He makes it sound...not sad or wierd. Its almost as if his voice sounds inspired.*

You? I'm sorry, I'm Eddie.

*He doesn't advance, but smiles and offers a hand. Its..smooth? Looks like he hasn't done a days work in his life.*

Madison Templin

I slip my hand out of my pocket, still eyeing him ...reletively warily, I bite my lip for a moment, then take his hand and give it a shake.

"Madison...Maddy, ususally." I shake his hand and pull mine back. "I ah..I go to ESU, design and fashion...I'm in a band.."

My band, but I won't be too boastful. I clear my throat some and I nod.

"Ya got a place to start fresh there, Eddie, or...you gonna do the hobo thing?"

Eddie Hawk

*I shake her hand with no hesitation. Its a trust that I still give to easily. When she takes hers back I put my own in my pocket. I can feel the money I have. I sold my guitar. It was a gift from a friend. I got 175 bucks to my name. Nope, no place to live yet...*

Hadn't figured that far yet...plus I plan to stay in New York. Hopefully something good might come from it...

*Again a grin as I scratch the back of my head. Yeah, all good ideas are born in instances and not always focused on for the long haul.*

ESU? And a band? Wow, thats cool. Sounds like your very talented...

*Not sarcasm, it sounds like it, but he is impressed. Every person has talents...appreciate them when they come.*

Madison Templin

"I guess."

Yeah, Splash-Works. We're known around town, we have a little following of fans. We definately don't suck, that's for sure. I nod a bit and chew on my bottom lip. My mind goes to my couch in my little apartment. Yep, Mads, offer it to a complete stranger. Not stupid at all So my mind goes off of that for now. I motion down the street, I was headed to a cafe that had the best brownies in the world.

"Well, for a starvin'..ah..guy.." I'd say artist, but ..you know, not everyone can be as cool as I am. "The least I could do is buy you a brownie."

Eddie Hawk

*He manages a grin. Not that chocolate doesn't make anyone happy. But sugar does little for him. Heck, a good coffee isn't good unless it has ten packets of sugar. And even then, thats an expresso. Yeah, they made him try it once.*

Only if I can buy the milk?

*Did he offer to buy milk? What is this the 1950's? Nah, just whats better with a brownie but milk after all. A gesture for her to lead the way. A small bow that looks silly even for him.*

So what instrument do you play?

*Part of him hopes she says guitar. Not that he'd announce he played too. But...*

Madison Templin

"Base, lead guitar, acoustic guitar, just depends on what I feel like or what song we're doin' I guess."

I start walking with him down to the cafe, milk would be divine, or at least...chocolate milk would be. I love chocolate, is that so wrong?

I glance to him and I bite my lip. I think he's a mutant, or at least not normal, but do I just blurt it out? "So, you a mutant?" Yep, I guess I do. Straight from idea to mouth, no filters in between. I rock I tells ya.

Eddie Hawk

*He doesn't respond at first, walking as she mentions the guitar. Smiling at the fact they have something in common until she says mutant. HE doesn't flinch, he's been called worse. He's not ashamed, but he wants to start fresh. And if the world proclaims him a mutant now, he has nothing to fall back on. He has no...protection like before. No where to go now...*

Are you?

*He turns the question, not answering but asking instead. Softly...gently. Not admitting, but not denying himself.*

Madison Templin

"Yep."

I'm not afraid, I could grab the next door and be hundreds of miles away, maybe even a thousand. I ain't gonna hide. I don't like the concept of hiding, it just ain't right. Nevermind that my band has no flippin' clue that I'm a mutant. It's just...never come up.

"Gate. It's what my friends call me, though most of my friends have no clue why, or what I am. You can't tell by lookin' at me, so..I just figured since you weren't there one second and were the next..you had to be something ...special."

Eddie Hawk

*He blushes, not associating mutant to special or his appearance to it. He does however find her calling him special to be...sweet. Been a long time since anyone has said that about him.*

I think mutants are no different than anyone else in the world. Its like being black or white, male or female. We all are exactly the same. Neat name...Gate.

*He eally does smile while saying it to. Once they get close, he opens the door, waiting for her to enter. He still hasn't said he was a mutant. He trusts her, but he also doesn't want to be the mutant. He's not the mutant or the anything...He's Eddie. Eddie Hawk, the guy. Everything else is a part that makes up the whole.*

You have a pretty smile...

*He says softly. Not trying to flirt or change the subject. He just says it cause he thought it.*

Madison Templin

"Yeah? You think so?" I touch the little mole by my mouth, mom called it my "beauty mark" just like Cindy Crawford. Yeah, well, at least I don't have giant catipillar eyebrows. I walk up to the counter and I get myself and him a brownie, those huge brownies that could be a meal in itself. I get one with nuts, one without, he can pick after. I don't mind either way. I pay for 'em, yeah, two bucks each, not that I mind, but money can be tight in this city. I ain't rich, that's for sure. Not like I'm not above stealing to survive...which I have. Kinda sad, but sometimes a girl has to do what a girl has to do.

This place has milk in those tall plastic bottles, no little card board boxes here, which is better, I think. I tend to gulp milk with my brownies.

I wait until we're seated, then I proceed to tell him what I can do. He hasn't affirmed or denied but I'm pretty sure.

"I can go through one door, and end up at any door I want up to like a couple thousand miles away. Pretty cool, huh?"

Eddie Hawk

*A smile as he pays for the milk, carrying it to the table. Putting it down before pulling her chair out. Old fashioned, but I did learn something from my no good dad.*

Really? Even if the doors are locked?

*I mean thats really cool. You want pizza, you leave your front door and arrive blocks away at Dominoes...what more could you need?*

Sounds like a really cool ability. Perfect for a city that you can't really get around in during rush hour traffic...

*Laughing as he reaches for the plain brownie. Not a big nut fan, but he only took half. For now..willing to share.*

Designer...gifted...

*Trying to cover the things he's learned so far without telling any noisey ears that might be near.*

Sounds like you have a great life.

Madison Templin (Liss) (6/13/2006 3:47:16 AM) I take the whole nut brownie, and I bite into it, I nudge the rest of the plain one back to him. It's his. All of it. My smile fades some. My life great?

"I guess if you mean scratchin' an scrimplin' to have enough clothes to wear, and enough food to eat..I guess. Apartments are pricey here."

Not like they weren't in Brooklyn, but my mom was there then and yeah...two jobs pays better than one. I shrug some and sigh.

"It's alright, I guess. Don't have to worry about a car, so that's good."

Madison Templin (Liss) (6/13/2006 3:47:43 AM) ||~blinks in Ed's direction~ "My..I ..wow."||

Eddie Hawk (Garth) (6/13/2006 3:53:20 AM) I never had a car either. I got my liscence cause one of my friends was getting his.

*A smile, even if hers fades. Wondering...*

You know, life is as good as we make it. You scrimped and saved, but it made it more important for he things you have right? Not like the rich people who just toss things aside after using them once, right?

*A small smile at his joking example.*

See this? This is all I own...

*Showing his duffle, half open, some clothing to be seen...and a picture of him and a few others...and a third..picture of something..looks almost like a comic book or something. Wierd costume.*

Madison Templin (Liss) (6/13/2006 3:56:38 AM) "I guess. Feels like I never throw anything away. Pack rat."

I take another bite, a thoughtful look crosses my features as I watch him, I knwo what it's like to be poor, only have the clothes on my back. I don't, however, snoop into his bag, I glance, but that's all.

"Ya know...I got a comfy couch."

Eddie Hawk (Garth) (6/13/2006 3:59:51 AM) Really, I got a comfy shirt..though I think its at the bottom of this...

*He was about to reach into his bag when he looks back to her and smiles realizing she wasn't comparing.*

Really?

*Reaching for the milk to swallow and maybe not look as silly.*

Madison Templin (Liss) (6/13/2006 4:06:32 AM) I laugh softly. Alright, nutjobs in this city, I know I know, yadda yadda yadda. But this guy's nice and needs a helpin' hand. Who am I to keep my glorious little hole all to myself.

"Yeah..and lots of..extra blankets and a couple extra pillows. My mom used to stay over sometimes..."

Yep, I'm offerin' my couch to this...Eddie. The second Eddie I've met this week. This one's a little...more in my league though.

"So ..what you say?"

Eddie Hawk (Garth) (6/13/2006 4:11:41 AM) *He thinks for a moment, it was this or a park bench, wow..a real toss up.*

Can I help anyway to make up for your offer?

*Silly, but he doesn't like to just take free rides. The first time in Xaviers he tried to cook for Professor Xavier.*

Madison Templin (Liss) (6/13/2006 4:14:09 AM) "Uh, you could clean up after yourself, make dinner every once in a while and maybe chip in with rent if you can get yourself a job.."

I smile, no, actually, I grin. I ain't gonna take it easy on him, that's for sure. I'm gonna make sure he does his part until he gets on his feet, or somethin' like that.

"As long as that's fine, you can stay as long as ya want.."

Eddie Hawk (Garth) (6/13/2006 4:18:42 AM) And I thought you were going to make it tough on me...

*He laughed, finihsing his milk and brownie. A place to stay for now...a couch. Heck yeah...glad I didn't tell her I used to enjoy sleeping on the floor when I was little.*

No one would mind if I did, right?

*Not that he's backing out, just trying to ask in case he is woken up by some jealous guy. He only sleeps two hours a day anyway.*

Madison Templin (Liss) (6/13/2006 4:22:36 AM) "Nah. No one to mind." I dunno why I said that. I mean, Greg might mind. He's my friend and all, the drummer in my band, but he in no way has any way to get into my apartment, so why worry.

I finish up my brownie and then my milk, before I stand up and tilt my head. "It's really not far."

It is, but..you know...I have my ways.

Eddie Hawk (Garth) (6/13/2006 4:27:54 AM) *I nod, smiling a little more as I hoist my duffle up over my shoulder when I stand. Guess I got a rommate...*

I promise I won't snore loudly.

*A joke as I grab the empty milk bottles to throw away.*

Lead on...roomie.

Madison Templin (Liss) (6/13/2006 4:35:24 AM) I don't head to the front door, I mean I 'm not gonna hide, but I ain't just gonna go out the front door and disappear. Might be too fishy. I start toward the back, the storage closet that I see. It says 'Employee's Only' but that isn't gonna stop me.

I wait until he's right behind me before I touch the door, then open it. Beyond the door isn't a little closet, at least, for us it isn't. It's a room, about 40 feet by 40 feet, it has a bunch of stuff in it already, clothes, furniture, things that don't fit in my apartment, but stuff I wanna keep. When he steps in, the door closes.

"This is my room, don't ask me where it is, or what it is, it's just the pit stop between point A and point B. It used to be plain.." Now the walls have bright beautiful murals on them, all painted by me. Directly across the room is another door, a normal unassuming door. I walk to it and I open it up. On the other side is a small apartment, dark, with no views whatsoever.

"C'mon, can't stay in here without me."

Eddie Hawk (Garth) (6/13/2006 4:39:12 AM) *He finds it odd to go to the employees only door..but hey..he's following and he's seen wierder in his life than this. MUCH wierder...*

Wow, this is cool...

*Actually impressed, and then confused when she says don't ask where..so he doesn't. He looks about, his locking and unlocking from different things that draw attention.*

So your couch for me is?

*Figuring its behind the other door. After all, she said we can't stay in here without...her?*

Why? What happens to the room when your not here?

Madison Templin (Liss) (6/13/2006 4:39:30 AM) ((hm))

Madison Templin (Liss) (6/13/2006 4:42:23 AM) "You get trapped."

I wait for him to come into the apartment before I let the door close. I reopen it and he finds that it's the bathroom. We're in the livingroom/kitchen. All one room...it's pretty small. My bedroom's a loft, just behind us and up the stairs. Privacy might be an issue here, but I doubt he'll peek on me.

"And after an hour or so, you'd run out of air and die."

That came out so casual. I point to the sofa, which looks big and fluffy, and I move to the linen closet that's about a couple feet from the bathroom door to the left. I start pulling out sheets and blankets.

"Only I can open those doors. You'd just be locked right in...until I let you out."

I pause. That could be nasty if I ever misused it.

"There's the couch, and here's the blankets."

Eddie Hawk (Garth) (6/13/2006 4:49:31 AM) *He turned, blinking as he emerged and then her. Turning to reopen the door..he finds a toilet and..bathroom?*

Wow, your room looks smaller from this angle.

*A small smile before closing the door to look back around.*

*Mid question until she says run out of air and die..the words never emerged as he gulped and nodded. mentally noting to make sure he doesn't try to be a gentleman in that case and let the lady leave the room first. Walking to the couch, lowering my duffle at the foot of the sofa. Putting it on the floor, I push down. Soft, nice...*

Thanks again for this...I owe you one. Really...

Madison Templin (Liss) (6/13/2006 4:53:16 AM) "You owe me a few."

I grin some and shrug.

"There's food in the fridge, the tv's little but..it's black and white..and ...it sucks. It just sucks. My bedroom's up there..it's a loft so..if you watch tv while I'm sleepin'..just kinda keep it to a dull roar. I sleep with a fan on anyway so..shouldn't hear you."

I shrug then.

"I'm gonna grab a shower and hit the hay, got class in the morning..." I pause, then move to a small desk where my computer is, I pull open a drawer and I turn to give him a key.

"I can get in without it." I also tell him the address here, then I pause to get paper and write it all down, address, phone number, all that good stuff so he can get back here. "Here..easier to remember."

Eddie Hawk (Garth) (6/13/2006 4:57:48 AM) *I nod to all the information, lot to take in though I do it with little trouble. Each word spells out the beginning for me and I smile more as she goes on.*

Okay...I gotcha. Uh huh...

*Taking the key, I hold it a moment and look up from it when she says she can get in without it.*

True....no need for a locksmith.

*Watching her write the data down, I tuck it into my jeans pocket for now. I'll memorize it later.*

Okay..well..uh...sweet dreams?

*That is what I should say right? I mean...it just hit me that I'm rooming with a girl. Not like the guys thing where you just get all guyish and stuff. This is a girl...blush.*

Night...

Madison Templin (Liss) (6/13/2006 5:00:30 AM) "Uh...thanks." Sweet dreams? My mom told me my grandma said it to her, but whatever. It's cute. I nod a bit. "And don't let the couch bugs bite."

I pause as I head to the stairs.

"I uh..not like there are any.."

I trot up the stairs ..half way I stop.

"I mean...just...ugh..good night, Eddie."

I then finish going up the stairs to grab night clothes and my robe. The place is air conditioned so we won't have to worry about getting overly hot. I then come down and go into the bathroom, and I lock the door for the first time since I moved in here.
